Everyone knows that word of mouth is the best form of advertising any business can get. It appears to be free and generally new customers are encouraged to use your service or buy your offering because they have been recommended to do so by someone they trust. It makes the sale more frictionless. Network marketing on the other hand taps into the networks of people, often friends and family, and results in a friends trying to recruit or sell a product or service to them on a regular basis in return for a commission. So I guess the main difference is that the person doing the spreading of the word, i.e. the ‘marketer’, has a financial incentive to do so and therefore becomes a little tainted by that. Somehow their trust level in the eyes of the ‘message receiver’ is reduced.
This means the level of trust the receiver had in the first place with the marketer is crucial. For example if the level of trust was already low then the chances of making a sale in terms of the message being accepted and acted upon becomes very low. So erosion of trust is the main difference between word of mouth and network marketing. From this I conclude that credibility is vital to be a successful network marketer. So if you want to be successful in this area you must build credibility.
The reason for the erosion of trust between messenger and message receiver is the thought that the messenger ‘would say that’ after all they are being paid to deliver the message and have a vested interest in its successful delivery. This leads me to believe that if you make the method by which the messenger is paid more subtle or more acceptable then this affects the way the message receiver perceives the message. For example; imagine a situation where you get to use an online product for free and you are paid a portion of the advertising revenue generated on the products web site. In this case everyone can join in, use the product and get paid, in theory!
This is what we will do at Goals on Target – the system provides a goal planning and management system that is essential to any business opportunity seeker. If you fail to plan you are planning to fail. Users can sign up and use the system for free. Revenue is generated on the site by various context sensitive ads and active users are encouraged to promote the site to friends, family, colleagues and the internet in general through various free promotion methods and also paid promotion meth0ds. Active users in each users network generate revenue and the user is paid a portion of this as long as they remain active themselves. This is a nice version of Network Marketing as the user doesn’t pay anything to anyone, in fact the user gets paid to use the product as long as they are active users. So there is a nice win-win-win ecosystem here. The owners of Goals on Target get ad revenue, the advertiser gets exposure and clicks and the user gets paid to use the system and also gets a great system to help them organise their goals in life.
Let me know what you think of the concept. Bye for now.
